A bracing and delicious grappa from the masterful Marolo company.
Marolo, who are to be found in Piedmont, a region of Northern Italy, place a great emphasis on terroir, with plentiful single grape, single estate bottlings.
This grappa uses Nebbiolo grapes, native to the Piedmont region, from the Barolo, Roero, and Barbaresco areas. These have been fermented in oak barrels, before distillation in a single alembic. The spirit has then been kept in stainless steel tanks to prevent oxidation, before a brief maturation in oak barrels, lasting just six months.
The result is a warm and flavoursome grappa, with notes of vanilla, oak, green wood, grapes, red wine, cinnamon, pear, flowers and peppery spice.
The grappa is bottled at 44% ABV for a little extra warmth and intensity.
Subtle and spicy, this is an excellent representation of the Nebbiolo grape.
