The distillery lies in Lochranza, on the Isle of Arran, and is the only distillery on the island. The distillery was founded by Harold Currie, the former director of Chivas, in 1994. This is the first distiillery to legally run on the island, since the 'Lagg' distillery closed in 1837.
They released their first NAS whisky in 1998, and continued to do so until their first age stated release in 2006, the Arran 10. Later, in 2011, a cask strength 12 year old was released. Even though the distillery has a capacity of 750.000 liters per year, they only produce a fith of that. They make yearly single cask releases, either matured in bourbon or sherry casks, often with a special finish, in either Bordeaux, port or Calvados cask, just to name a few.
The Arran distillery is a representative of the 'World Burns Foundation', and has therefore created a Robert Burns single malt, and blended whisky, all this in honour of Scotland's national poet.
