Another excellent single-vineyard grappa from the terroir-obsessed Marolo distillery, found in Piedmont, Northern Italy.
Piedmont is the home of Barolo, one of the most well-regarded Italian red wines. This grappa is made with the marc of Nebbiolo grapes from the Bussia vineyard, used to make Barolo wine.
This pomace is carefully treated by Marolo: gently distilled so as not to impact the pomace’s delicate flavours, in special bain marie stills. The spirit has not been aged in wood, rather resting for a period in stainless steel tanks to avoid oxidation and ensure that the flavours are fully integrated prior to bottling.
As a result, this grappa offers a precise flavour of the pomace itself: vividly fruity, with powerful twiggy and earthy spice flavours, and touches of vanilla, spice, apples and flowers.
Bottled at 45% ABV, this is an intense and delicious grappa.
