Another flavoursome unaged grappa from the Marolo distillery, found in Piedmont, Northern Italy.
Marolo have been in the business since 1977, and have quickly established a superb reputation for creating excellent, small batch, single grape and single estate grappas. They have a strong commitment to terroir.
This grappa has been made with Moscato, or Muscat grape pomace. Muscat grapes are one of the largest families of grape in wine production, with over 200 varieties. The Moscato used for this grappa is taken from wineries in the Asti region of Piedmont, where the grapes make a sweet, sparkling wine with a floral character.
The pomace has been stored in oak barrels, before being distilled in a single alembic. It has not been aged, but has been rested for a period in stainless steel takes, to prevent oxidation and ensure full integration of flavour.
The result is a powerfully floral and aromatic grappa, with notes of green wood, grape, white chocolate, vanilla and peppery alcoholic spice.
A different perspective on the Moscato grape!
