Another delectable grappa from the Marolo distillery, found in the Northern Italian province of Piedmont.
Since their foundation in 1977, Marolo have made it their mission to create fantastic small batch grappa bottlings which prioritize the terroir of individual grape strains or even individual vineyards.
This bottling is made with Dolcetto grape pomace, used to make wine in the Alba region of Piedmont. Dolcetto translates as “little sweet one”, but ironically the wine it makes is very dry and sometimes tannic and fruity.
The pomace is carefully distilled in Marolo’s bain marie stills, so as not to damage the grape’s delicate flavours. This grappa has not been aged, but has been rested for a period in stainless steel tanks to avoid oxidation and allow the flavours to harmonise.
The result is a vividly fruity and floral grappa, with some earthy vine notes, and spices of nutmeg, vanilla and pepper, lemon zest, powdered white sugar, alongside precise flavours of honeysuckle and orange blossom.
The grappa is bottled at the slightly higher proof of 44% ABV, granting the flavours added intensity.
Excellent stuff again from Marolo, this is a grappa faithful to the grape and terroir.
