This bottling is part of Marolo’s innovative series of double cask matured grappa.
The distillery was founded in Piedmont, Northern Italy in 1977, and has placed a great emphasis on Terroir and single vineyard releases. Moreover, they have also done interesting things with cask maturation, using small barrels and unusual woods such as cherrywood and acacia.
This bottling has been aged in a mixture of oak and acacia barrels, giving it a complexity and depth. Acacia is prized more for its ability to give a unique texture to the spirit, rather than imparting lots of flavour. This means that when paired with the flavourful oak casks, two barrel varieties create a perfect balance of flavour and body.
The grappa is made with Nebbiolo pomace used to make Barolo wine, which is also found in Piedmont. The marc is carefully distilled in bain marie stills, to preserve its array of delightful flavours.
The final product is packed with notes of almond, balsamic strawberries, vanilla, almond, cocoa powder, prunes, raisins, plums, honey, raspberries, and hazelnut.
Each bottle comes complete with a hexagon shaped box.
