Marolo distillery was founded in 1977, and is found in Piedmont, Northern Italy. The distillery produces grappa with a strong emphasis on terroir, small batch production and attention to detail.

This bottling forms part of their ‘Le Classiche’ range, which looks at different classic grapes of Italy. They certainly choose a suitable candidate in Barbera, which is the third most planted red grape strain in Italy, following Montepulciano and Sangiovese.

The pomace is collected from small scale producers that match Marolo’s artisanal ideals. It is then distilled in bain marie stills, which allows for great control, meaning that Marolo can distill slowly and gently, so the delicate flavours of the pomace remain intact.

Spritely and spirituous, this grappa has a compelling dryness, with notes of red grape, spice, peppery alcohol, slight almond, green wood, apples, and powdered sugar.

Rested briefly in stainless steel tanks, this ensures that the flavours of the grappa fully integrate without oxidation.
