Ooft! An irresistibly powerful rum from top-notch bottlers Plantation.
When creating this blend, Plantation wanted to produce a spirit that harked back to the Golden Age of Sail, when rum was (to quote the label) “rich, flavorful and strong.” To make the spirit they assembled a crack team of experts: bartenders Paul McFadyen, Scott Schuder, Paul McGee, Martin Cate, Jeff Berry and historian David Wondrich, alongside Master Blender Alexandre Gabriel.
The spirit itself is a blend of Guyanese, Jamaican and Bajan rum. This rum is therefore the product of a collaboration of both minds and nations!
Normally we do not comment on colour here at Fine Drams, but we feel compelled to with this rum, which appears a rich, dark ruby red. The spirit itself possess a fiery character, with intense flavours of dark chocolate, nutmeg, cloves, oak, molasses, dried fruit espresso, barrel char, plums, vanilla and custard.
It is bottled at an extraordinary 69% ABV, which would be 20 degrees overproof working on the old Royal Navy scale.
This is a rum that is at its best in mixed drinks, where it lends an intense, oaky and sweet punch.
As for O.F.T.D.? That stands for Old Fashioned Traditional Dark – words that sum up the essence of this rum.
