An excellent vintage rum from this massively underrated Mauritius distillery.
New Grove has over 150 years of history, having first been established in 1838. The distillery uses local ingredients, with its headquarters found surrounded by beautiful green cane fields.
This bottling was distilled in 2005, and was selected and bottled for The Nectar, a company better known for their independent bottlings of Scotch whisky. The spirit was matured in a single French Limousin oak barrel.
This dram offers up notes of sharp citrus fruit, vanilla, bright sugar cane, tobacco smoke, dried mango, pineapples, coconut, overripe bananas, toffee, chocolate, burnt sugar, raisins, strong flavours of mixed spice, and some pressed flowers.
The rum is bottled at a warming 50% ABV and without either chill filtration or colouration.
Limited to just 900 bottles, this is a top notch offering from New Grove.
