A well aged, complex Korenwijn from Dutch distillery Zuidam.
Zuidam describe the spirit as a more delicate and fruity genever. Unlike genever, Korenwijn (which literally means “corn wine”) is based entirely on grain eau de vie, or “malt wine”. This spirit is made with equal parts rye, maize and malted barley.
The grain distillate is distilled four times in a traditional small pot still, before a small parcel of spirit is redistilled with botanicals of liquorice, juniper and aniseed. This herbal distillate is mixed with the rest of spirit, and reduced to 45% ABV before being aged for five years in small new American oak casks.
The result is a spirit that delivers full bodied flavours of vanilla, toffee, juniper, rye spice, honey, oak, liquorice, malted bread and subtle cinnamon.
The oldest and most complex of Zuidam’s range of Korenwijn, this is a rich spirit that would easily stand up to whiskies and Cognacs.
