A large bottling of Zuidam’s one year old Genever.
Made with a base of grain eau de vie, distilled from equal parts rye, maize and malted barley, this is a characterful gin-adjacent spirit. With spice from the rye, sweetness from maize, and body from the malt, the malt wine that forms the base of Genever offers greater depth and texture than your standard gin.
The Genever is distilled three times in Zuidam’s traditional red copper pot stills. A portion of this spirit is then set aside and redistilled with botanicals including liquorice root, aniseed and juniper. The two spirits are combined and aged in small new American oak barrels for a year.
The result is a well balanced Genever, that offers up notes of delicate bittersweet juniper, subtle spice, star anise, liquorice, vanilla, gentle oak and some slight fruitiness.
A great alternative to gin in cocktails, the spirit can also be sipped neat like rum, whisky or Cognac.
