Another delicious grappa from the family-run Nonino distillery, which is found in Friuli, northern Italy. Nonino have been in the business since 1897, so know a thing or two about creating a delicious grappa.
This bottling has been made with Glera, or Prosecco, grape pomace, gathered from dedicated production zones. The pomace is fermented in vacuum sealed, temperature controlled stainless steel tanks which prevent oxidation. The pomace is then distilled in discontinuous copper steam stills.
The spirit has then been aged in barriques and smaller oak casks in the Nonino cellars, for two years. This maturation has given the grappa a rounded character, and a more complex palate.
The result is a soft, floral grappa with flavours of oak, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, almond, hazelnut, sweet white grape, wine musk, crunchy green apple, chocolate, pressed flowers and raisins.
Delicious when served alongside dark chocolate or blue cheese, this would make a wonderful alternative to aged rums and whiskies.
