A delicious aged grappa from the family owned Nonino distillery, found in Friuli region of northern Italy.
This grappa has been made from Cabernet, Merlot and Schioppettino, a local Italian red wine grape found close to the Slovenian border. Schioppettino has only recently been saved from near extinction. The grappa is distilled in traditional alembics.
The bottling is a blend of grappas between the ages of 5 and 20 years. The spirit has been aged in Limousin French oak casks, or former sherry barrels.
The result is a rich and flavoursome grappa, with notes of dried fruits, vanilla, bright grapes, oak, toffee, green apples, anise, slight charred wood, cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon, green wood, peppery spice and milk chocolate.
Bottled at 43% ABV for a little extra warmth and body, this is a satisfying after dinner dram.
The grappa is beautifully presented, with Nonino’s classic alchemical styling.
