A simply stunning spiced rum produced by Master of Malt’s in-house spirits company, Ableforth’s! This rum has quality all the way through, starting with a base of marvelously flavoursome high proof Caribbean rum. Spices including cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, creamy Madagascan vanilla were added to the spirit, with a little bright orange peel and some further, secret ingredients, creating a delightfully complex spiced rum.
The nose on this spiced rum is intense and aromatic, with sweet vanilla, orange peel, estery rum, fresh cinnamon, dark toasted cloves, cola syrup and earthy Cardamom. The palate is thick and buttery, with bright citrus fruit up front, soon joined by spicy cinnamon, burnt sugar, treacle, spun sugar, honey and apple juice. The finish is long and spicy, with vanilla, oak and cinnamon lingering for some time. Rumbullion! pays homage to its Navy history with a grog tub on the old-fashioned label bearing the phrase: “The Queen, God Bless Her”. The spirit is delightfully presented with a black wax and twine seal, and a crinkled brown wrapper. Since its release in 2012, this rum has picked up a string of awards. At the International Wine and Spirits Competitions of 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2016 the rum won silver medals, which also received in the 2013 International Spirts Challenge, whilst winning a gold in the 2014 Rum Masters. Doubtless a rum that sets the standard for spiced rum, a variety of spirit often wrongly-maligned.
