From the experimental Ableforth’s spirits company comes this rich cask aged gin.
Named after the gin created by bootleggers during Prohibition, when unscrupulous drinks-makers would infuse rough spirit with flavourings in their bathtubs.
This gin is much more artfully done. The bottling begins with Ableforth’s standard gin (flavoured with juniper, orange peel, coriander, cassia, cloves and cardamom) and ages it in tiny octave oak whiskey casks.
For this bottling, Ableforth’s have used the whiskey cask twice – once for three months, to get the most intense, sweet oaky flavours. This spirit is then drawn from the cask and set aside, whilst fresh gin is added for a second, six month period. These two batches of spirit are then blended together for a richly flavoured and slightly amber gin.
The result? A rich, buttery and spicy gin with notes of marmalade on malty toast, vanilla, creamy oak, piney juniper, earthy spice, sugar and fragrant cardamom.
Bottled at 43.3% for extra body and depth, Bathtub Gin Cask Aged is a high quality sipping gin.
