A lovely aperitivo style liqueur from Nardini, the famous grappa house that was first established in 1779.

The bottling is produced in the style of a red vermouth, but a little stronger, based upon a neutral grain spirit rather than wine. The product is infused with gentian root, quinine, calissaia, vanilla, sweet orange and bitter orange.

The result is an aperitif that serves up notes of marmalade, cherry, rooty spice, chopped herbs, fruit candy, black pepper, zesty orange, quinine, cream soda, and soft cola.

Traditionally served over ice with a lemon peel and soda water, this could also be used in place of sweet vermouth to make an interesting, more robust Manhattan.
