A mysterious 12 year old rum, bottled by Cane Island but produced by a secret distillery in Nicaragua (it might interest some readers to know that there are only two rum brands in Nicaragua, Flor de Cana and Ron Mombacho).

The rum was distilled in a column still, before being aged for 12 years in former Bourbon American oak casks. 12 years is a very respectable age for spirit matured in the tropics, and as such this rum is extremely rich and complex.

Big, big flavours straight off the bat from this rum, with powerful cigar smoke and cedarwood, followed by long notes of brown sugar, vanilla, dark oak, dried fruit, woodspice, overripe bananas, custard and espresso.

A simply glorious offering, and at superb value too.
