A cracking Panamanian rum from Plantation, which has recently changed its name to Planteray.
This bottling forms part of the brand’s limited edition ‘Under the Sea’ series, with the theme reflected in the rum’s beautiful packaging.
This rum was originally distilled in a column still at Alcoholes del Istmo in Panama in 2008. The spirit was made using high quality sugar cane grown in the volcanic soil found close to the distillery.
After distillation, the rum was initially aged in Bourbon barrels in Panama’s tropical heat for 12 years, before being transported to Javrezac in the Cognac region of south west France. Here it underwent a second maturation in Ferrand Cognac casks for a year. Plantation Panama 13 year old is the product of only 19 barrels.
The rum itself offers delightful flavours of toasted nuts, cedarwood, tobacco leaf, vanilla, orange rind, pears, peaches, summer berries, toffee, dark chocolate, leather, oak, sweet molasses, liquorice, pepper, nutmeg and cloves.
Bottled at a warming 45.7% ABV, this is a rich, satisfying and complex rum.
