A refined bottling from the Beast of Dufftown. Mortlach 20 year old is also known as Cowie’s Blue Seal, a name taken from the original bottlings of Mortlach, made for distillery owner George Cowie around the start of the 20th century.
This Mortlach has been matured solely in sherry casks for 20 years, with the thick, almost meaty spirit of the distillery (produced through their unusual 2.81 times distillation) acquiring a delightful complexity and subtlety.
This whisky serves up flavours of dried fruit, sweet wine, tannins, spices, citrus rind, toffee, vanilla, charred wood, oak, red berries and orchard fruit.
The whisky is bottled at 43.4% ABV, with a medium body.
One of the better Mortlach bottlings in recent years.
