A richly sherried and fruity Mortlach, very much akin to the popular Flora and Fauna bottling of the same age – though a lot easier to get hold of!
Mortlach is known for its unusual distillation process – a result of having different sized and shaped stills ¬– which means the spirit is distilled 2.81 times. This creates a thick, meaty and almost savoury new make, a far cry from most Speyside whiskies.
The Beast of DufftownDave Broom, Whisky Writer.
This whisky is aged in a mixture of first fill and refill sherry casks for 16 years. Mortlach is particularly excellent in sherry casks, with the jammy, fruity qualities of the fortified wine bringing out the best of the spirit.
The result is a richly flavoured and luxurious whisky, packed with notes of dried fruits, chocolate, toffee, citrus rind, cask funk, juicy berries, mince pies, bananas, vanilla and old oak.
Bottled at 43.4% ABV, this is a creamy dram.
A muscular and powerful whisky, this is classic Mortlach through and through.
