The fourth release from the recently revamped Mortlach range.
This bottling was originally a travel retail exclusive. Mortlach, “the Beast of Dufftown”, designed this whisky to honour Dr Alexander Cowie, who created Mortlach’s unique 2.81 distillation process in 1896. This process, known at the distillery as “the way”, involves splitting the low wines and redistilling the parts a differing number of times. The final result is Mortlach’s famously weighty spirit.
This dram has been aged in a mixture of former sherry, former Bourbon and “rejuvenated” casks for 14 years.
The result is a rich dram which serves up flavours of citrus rind, warming ginger, cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon, white pepper, tea, weighty malt, dried fruits, dusty oak and apples.
Bottled at 43.4% ABV for a little more depth and body, this is a high quality dram.
