The second batch of Mackmyra’s AI-developed whisky.

Created through partnership with Microsoft and Fourkind, this whisky uses recipes created by Microsoft’s Azure cloud computing service.

Mackmyra’s Master Blender, Angela D’Orazio, assisted by determining which recipe ingredients work well together, while also removing less-optimal combinations.

In time, the AI algorithm learnt the combinations that worked, and began to produce better recipes, which would go on to become the Intelligens series.

This dram has been aged in a combination of first fill Bourbon casks, “freshly saturated” ex-Oloroso Sherry casks, virgin American oak barrels and small, 30 litre virgin Swedish oak casks which had held smoky whisky.

The end result is a fruity, subtly smoked dram, with notes of vanilla, citrus rind, spicy pepper, oak, butterscotch, orange segments, woodsmoke and a touch of bittersweet juniper.

A fascinating experimental dram.
