The third edition of Diplomático’s Distillery Collection, which was first released in 2017.

The Venezuelan distillery created the series to shine a light on the different styles of rum that are blended together to create the bottlings in their standard range.

This particular bottling uses only spirit distilled in Diplomático’s historic copper pot still, which was imported to the distillery from Scotland in 1959. Made from “sugar cane honey”, the spirit has been matured in former Bourbon barrels for six years.

Pot stills produce heavier, more characterful spirits, and indeed, this bottling is heftier than the other two expressions in this series.

The rum offers up notes of rich oak, dark chocolate, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, vanilla, dried fruits, dark brown sugar, wax, tobacco, charred oak, mango, honey, leather, pineapple, toffee and slight espresso.

The bottling is presented at 47% ABV, and without any additional sugar (unlike other bottlings in Diplomático’s standard range).

A high quality expression that will appeal to fans of the traditional “British” style of heavier rums.

Just 5,000 bottles were released worldwide.
