A super-premium rum from Diplomatic, this is one of the best bottlings to come out of Venezuela. This rum was created by Rum Master Tito Cordero, a man with over 25 years experience in the industry, and 2011 Golden Barrel Awards Rum Master of the Year. This rum is produced from 100% pot still distilled rum, and is aged for a minimum of 12 years. The rum enjoys ex-bourbon maturation for the lion’s share of its time in cask, with a finishing period of two years in Pedro Ximénez barrels. The rum is presented without any additional colouration, sugars or flavourings added, and at a robust 47% ABV, resulting in a thicker mouthfeel and more powerful flavours. On the nose fruity, sherried aromas surge out of the glass. These are joined by notes of boiled sweets, banana, hazelnut and chocolate. On the palate, the darker chocolaty notes take the fore, with a growing sherried dry fruit character. The finish is long and lingering with set honey notes, a touch of tobacco smoke and drying woodspice. Doubtless one of the very best rums on the market today, this is not one to be missed.
