Long regarded as one of the finest rum producers in South America, Diplomático are not afraid of innovation. This bottling marks an upgrade on the Blanco expression, which had been the brand’s white rum for some time. Whilst this rum is made the same way, the proof has been increased from 40% to 47% ABV, adding considerable body and power to this rum. Planas also sees this rum bottling gaining a new look, closer to other Diplomático bottlings. The rum is distilled in a copper pot still, from Venezuelan virgin cane “honey”. Despite being aged for up to 6 years in small casks, this rum is perfectly clear, having been filtered through charcoal 6 times. The result is a rare thing, a white rum that you can sip! On the nose this rum has notes of powdered sugar, nuts and iced cakes. The palate is dense and chewy with a little coffee and peppered spice. The finish short and intensely sweet. Whilst delicious neat, this rum really shines in Mojitos, Daiquiris and Tiki cocktails, adding a touch of class.
