The second release in Venezuelan distillery Diplomático’s Distillery Collection.
This series was created to illustrate the versality of the distillery, offering a taste of the various styles of spirit that are blended to make their standard bottlings. This expression is named after the Barbet column still that the distillery imported from France way back in 1959.
Diplomático Barbet has been entirely distilled in this column still, and is produced from Sugar Cane Molasses. The spirit has been aged for around four years American oak casks.
The result is a lighter version of Diplomático’s rum, with no pot still spirit present. As such, this bottling falls very much into the Cuban style.
The rum offers up notes of vanilla, brown sugar, tobacco, flowers, dried fruits, toffee, buttered corn, cinnamon, milk chocolate, Bourbon-esque notes of bright oak, and charred wood.
This bottling is presented at 47% ABV and (unlike the Diplomático standard range) does not feature any added sugar.
Strictly limited to just 5,000 bottles worldwide, this bottling shows off a different aspect to the Diplomático range.
