Chateau de Montifaud’s range of XO Cognacs are amongst the very best in the industry. Montifaud are one of our very favourite producers, a family owned company since 1866, with the Vallet family in their 6th generation of management.
This XO Cognac is produced entirely from grapes grown in the Petite Champagne cru, recognised as one of the very finest crus in the Cognac region. These grapes are grown at Montifaud’s vineyard, which has been in the Vallet family’s hands since 1837, and is ideal for the cultivation of Cognac grapes. The plateau of earth receives plenty of sunlight, whilst the chalky soil ensures the perfect level of acidity for the production of the final spirit.
Being a brandy in the XO grade, the spirit has to have been aged for a minimum of 6 years in French oak casks. However, Montifaud are well known for producing spirit at well over the required age, meaning that this spirit is likely a little older than the 6-year minimum. The Cognac has been matured in the Montifaud cellars, a dry and cool location for ideal for long maturation of spirit.
The result of this maturation is a Cognac of peerless complexity and depth, rich in fruity, aromatic notes of spice, red berries, toffee, white peaches and grapes, accompanied by cask influenced flavours of toasted nuts, dark oak, bananas and vanilla. The spirit was bottled in 2017.
The spirit is presented in a highly traditional wine-style bottle, with a rustic style label and Montifaud’s emblem. A must try for all Cognac lovers!
