Another superb vintage release from the excellent Cognac House, Chateau de Montifaud. This vintage, or millésimé, Cognac was distilled in 1978 from grapes grown in the Petite Champagne cru, which is ranked as one of the finest crus in the Cognac region.
The grapes used to make this spirit were all picked in the 1978 harvest, and the spirit has been long aged in French oak casks in Montifaud’s cellars. The result is a spirit of divine complexity, with rich, dried fruit notes, toffee, bright white grape, sweet wine, polished oak and vanilla flavours. A tour de force of a Cognac, this illustrates how fantastic the vintage spirit can be. The 1978 Vintage enjoys a slight bump in proof to 43% ABV, which might seem insignificant, but makes a large and positive difference to the flavour and mouthfeel of the Cognac.
This Cognac looks as good as it tastes, bottled in a charming, old-fashioned decanter style bottling, with a traditional gold stopper, accompanied by a handsome presentation box. One that every Cognac connoisseur will want to try!
