Another superb, extremely long aged Cognac from the Jarnac-based house of Montifaud. Montifaud is a traditional Cognac château that has been owned by the Vallet family for 6 generations. The Cognac house has a modest vineyard, located in the most prestigious crus of Petite and Grande Champagne. Here, on the level earth which is rich in clay, the distillery has perfected the cultivation of Ugni Blanc, Folle Blanche and Colombard grapes. This Cognac is produced from a mixture of these grapes, distilled in Montifaud’s recently renovated stills, which create a fabulously fruity spirit. This Cognac is aged long and slow in French Oak casks in Montifaud for 30 years, developing some frankly astonishingly complex flavours. A classic example of how good Cognac can be. Even in the competitive Hors D’Age category, this bottling holds its own, with outstanding flavours of rich, dried grape, old oak panelling and tobacco smoke. This 30 year old is beautifully presented in a traditional style rustic bottling complete with old fashioned cork, that will appeal to every collector. Simply put, this is one of the very best Cognacs we’ve ever tried, and one that every Cognac fan will want to try.
