One of the two “classic” Chartreuse bottlings, alongside the famous Green. This liqueur was first produced about the year 1840, when Brother Bruno Jacquet, of the Carthusian Order that created the liqueur, adapted the original to create a sweeter, more drinkable liqueur.
The result is a distinctively golden liqueur, which possesses notes of milk chocolate, aniseed, honey, earthy roots and spices, pine, citrus, mind, peppery alcohol spice and a touch of coffee.
This lighter liqueur is used in myriad different cocktails, most notably the Diamondback and Greenpoint. Chartreuse is one of few spirits to improve with age in the bottle.
Hats off to Brother Jacquet, this is undoubtedly a classic liqueur.
