Created to commemorate the year of 1605, when Carthusian monks were presented with a recipe for the Elixir of Life by François Hannibal d’Estrées. The bottle was released on the occasion of the 400th anniversary of this event, in 2005.
This bottling is based on the original recipe, and is presented at a robust 56% ABV. It is made with over 130 ingredients, and is essentially a special edition of Green Chartreuse.
The result is an intensely herbaceous and minty liqueur, with notes of aniseed, gentian, génépi, green wood, chopped herbs, spearmint, celery, basil, pine, earthy coriander and peppery spice.
Less sweet than other Chartreuse bottlings, this is delicious served as an aperitif or mixed into a Last Word.
