The Bertrand Cognac house dates back to 1731, and is found in the heart of the Petite Fine Champagne Cru.
The domain is known for its iconic Windmill of Bel’Air, the last in the town of Reaux, which is surrounded by the estate’s 82 hectares of vines.
This single estate Cognac is made from Ugni Blanc and Colombard grapes grown on chalky soil – allowing the fruit to develop the perfect level of acidity and flavour. The grapes are all from Bertrand’s Petite Fine Champagne vines, some of which are as old as 80 years (older vines often produce a more concentrated and flavoursome crop).
The spirit has been double distilled in small batches, before being aged for a minimum of 5 years in French oak from Limousin and Tronçais forests. The result is an extremely high quality VS Cognac, that serves up notes of subtle flowers, vanilla, grape sweetness, gentle dried fruit, toffee, nutmeg, cloves, and slight light oak.
One of the best VS Cognacs you are likely to encounter, this would do very well served neat as an aperitif, or mixed into cocktails.
