The annual limited edition bottling of Woodford Reserve for “The Most Exciting Two Minutes in Sports”, the Kentucky Derby.

Woodford Reserve is the official Bourbon partner of the Kentucky Derby (and has been since 1999), and each year releases a specially designed bottle to commemorate “The Race For The Roses”. This year’s release was a particularly special one, as it marks 20 years since Woodford Reserve first partnered with the race.

The label has been designed by Keith Anderson, an artist working out of Louisville, Kentucky, who had previously been tapped to design the label in 2017. Anderson was the first African-American to have his work featured on the bottle. Anderson stated that with this bottle he wanted to capture the moment of excitement as the horses pass the Grandstand.

Beyond the label, drinkers will find the same Woodford Reserve they know and love, with a mashbill of 72% corn, 18% rye and 10% malt.

The whiskey serves up flavours of honey, spice, apple, chocolate, leather, espresso, creamy vanilla, sweet malt, rye spices, sugar cane, new oak and toasted cornbread.

The special edition bottling enjoys a bump in proof to 45.2% ABV, and is bottled in a larger litre format.

Definitely one for the collectors out there.
