Woodford already had an excellent reputation for their wonderful high-rye mashbill bourbon, but this bottling takes things further. A marvellous Straight Rye which pairs spirit from the pot-stills of Woodford distillery and from the column stills of Brown Forman distillery. The mash-bill of this dram seeks to find a balance between the sweetness of corn and the spiciness of rye, using a mix of 53% rye, 33% corn and 14% unmalted barley. Here Brown Forman put their previous rye knowledge gained from when they produced Rittenhouse (following the Heaven Hill fire) to good use. The resulting spirit is a wonderful, menthol-led spicy affair, with notes of caramel and toffee and a good dose of toasted oak. Whilst their bourbon is the “official” bourbon for Mint Juleps, this would be perfect for all manner of rye-based cocktails.
