Once a rarity, Wheat whiskies are increasing in number and popularity. This bottling is produced by Kentucky distillery Woodford Reserve, and is based on historical recipes.
Although based on old recipes, Woodford Reserve have tried to maintain a sense of house style, and tweaked the mashbill slightly for modern palates. The whiskey is made with 52% wheat, 20% malt, 20% corn and 8% rye. The spirit has been matured in new American oak casks.
The whiskey offers up notes of warming baking spices (cinnamon and clove), cedarwood, apples, pears, mashed banana, gentle flowers, wheaty bread, a little chocolate, some grainy sweetness, vanilla, brown sugar and rye-mint.
Benefitting from a bottling proof of 45.2% ABV, the dram is warming and mediumly bodied.
