The popularity of spiced rum continues to soar, with high quality producers such as St Luica Distillers getting in on the trend. This spiced rum starts with a base of St Lucia’s excellent Chairman’s Reserve rum. To this is added a range of local spices, fruits and aromatics: cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, vanilla, coconut, all spice, lemon and orange. Most crucial however, is the addition of Richeria Grandis – known on the island as “Bois Bande” – a bark famous in the Caribbean for being a powerful aphrodisiac (we at Fine Drams cannot confirm the effectiveness of this), giving this rum an edge! As spiced rums go, this is not as heavy on the vanilla, which makes a refreshing difference, rather this is a sweet and fruity offering with highlights of bubblegum and spice. Pairs wonderfully well with a multitude of mixers such as cola, lemonade and ginger ale. Excellent stuff from St. Lucia again.
