Another addition to the constantly expanding Chairman’s Reserve range.
Produced by the highly regarded Saint Lucia Distillers (on the island of Saint Lucia, of course) this bottling commemorates the life and legacy of ‘Chairman’ Laurie Barnard, the man who first brought pot stills to the distillery in a bid to diversify their output. He also oversaw the replanting of the distillery’s sugar cane estate in the mid-1990s, after they had lay dormant for over 30 years.
These moves proved to be extremely successful, slowly but surely placing SLD amongst the best rum making companies in the world. Blenders at the distillery are now able to use different styles of distillate, using a variety of stills, wild yeast strains and on-site cultivated sugar cane molasses to produce complex, intriguing bottlings. This rum has been made with ¼ John Dore pot still spirit, and the rest made up with column still spirit. The rum has been aged in multiple cask varieties.
The final result is a rich, decadent bottling with notes of candied ginger, coffee, molasses, orange rind, dark chocolate, dried fruits, pineapple, vanilla, papaya, cinnamon, allspice, mango, bananas and oak.
Bottled at 43% ABV for a little more warmth and body, this Chariman’s Reserve bottling certainly honours Barnard’s legacy!
