A beautiful 2001 vintage from superb Rhum Agricole producer Saint James, based in Martinique.
Found close to the Atlantic coast of the Caribbean island, Saint James grows much of its own cane on 250 year old plantations. Agricole is made not with the molasses or other sugar byproducts, but with the fermented pressed juice of the sugar cane. The spirit is distilled in column stills, producing a pure, slightly dry, yet fragrant spirit.
This rum has been aged for 10 years in a mixture of former Bourbon and Limousin oak barrels. The result is a well aged rum, packed with delightful tropical fruit flavours, followed by notes of pressed flowers, sweet cane, nutmeg, cinnamon, cloves, ginger, burnt sugar, chocolate, coffee, lime and coconut.
Bottled at 43% ABV for a little extra warmth, this is quality product throughout.
A truly exceptional Rhum Agricole, that the connoisseurs will really enjoy.
