Port Charlotte is a range of peated whisky from Bruichladdich distillery, designed to recall an earlier Port Charlotte distillery that operated out of Loch Indaal until its closure in 1929. Since this line was first launched, it has proven itself to be very popular with fans of Islay whisky and unpeated Bruichladdich alike. This particular bottling was originally designed for release on the travel retail market, but happily a few bottles have found their way onto our shelves. This is a Port Charlotte that has been matured in French oak former cognac casks for full term – no finishing here! The resulting whisky is truly delicious, with a wonderful intermingling of the citric peat with the sweet, grape-led flavours of the cognac cask. This is all accompanied by a delicate undercurrent of Islay sea spray. This whisky benefits considerably from being bottled at a cask strength of 57.8%, whilst (as always with Bruichladdich) there has been no chill filtration or caramel colouring added.
