An aged Rhum Agricole from Guadeloupe.
Rhum Agricoles are produced not with a base of molasses, as most rums are, but using the fermented juice of the freshly pressed sugar cane. This typically produces a fragrant, somewhat grassy style of spirit, and is something of a speciality of French Overseas Departments and former colonies.
This particular bottling is a blend of Agricoles aged for five years in small barrels that previously held Bourbon.
The result is a spicy, rich rum with notes of grassy cane, lime juice, bananas, fresh peach, mango, grilled pineapple, ripe plums, oak, a little funkiness and fresh meadow flowers. A long finish with plenty of spice.
The rum is presented at 42% ABV for a touch more body.
Best ruhm around!
