An excellent, well aged Armagnac from Janneau.
One of the oldest Armagnac producers still operating in the region, Janneau was established by Pierre Etienne Janneau in 1851. The distillery remains in family hands, and with family ownership now in its fourth generation.
This bottling contains a blend of high quality eaux-de-vie aged for between 12 to 30 years in new French oak casks. The eaux-de-vie are made with Baco and Ugni Blanc grapes from the finest Crus in the Armagnac region: Bas Armagnac and Ténarèze. 80% of the spirit has been single distilled in a column still, with 20% double distilled in a pot still (an unusual method for producing Armagnac). This lends the final product a little more body and power.
The result is a rich, fruity Armagnac, with notes of tobacco, drying orange rind, quince, creamy coffee, toasted nuts, blackberries, cherries, plums, prunes, vanilla, slight chilli, cinnamon, nutmeg, fresh oak, peppery spice, rancio and slight leather.
A surprisingly fresh Armagnac, considering its age, this bottling stands up to even the best Cognacs.
