A lovely VSOP bottling from one of Armagnac’s oldest producers.

Janneau were established in 1851 by Pierre Etienne Janneau, and is now one of the oldest Armagnac houses still in operation.

As a VSOP Armagnac, this bottling must be aged for a minimum of 4 years, but this Armagnac exceeds that requirement, and contains spirit with an average age of 7 years (though some eau-de-vie used is as old as 20 years).

The spirit has been aged in new French Limousin oak casks, and is produced with Baco and Ugni Blanc grapes. The bottling contains a blend of double pot still distilled spirit (very unusual for Armagnac) and single column still distilled spirit.

The result is a bright, fruity Armagnac, with notes of dried flowers, figs, honey, toasted nuts, caramel, raisins, apples, fresh oak, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla and drying chocolate.

A cut above most VSOP brandies, this bottling picked up a “Gold Medal Outstanding” award in the International Wine and Spirits Competition of 2015.
