A refined, well aged Armagnac from Janneau. This bottling forms part of their single distillery series.
Janneau is one of the oldest Armagnac houses still operating, having been founded in 1851 by Pierre Etienne Janneau. The distillery remains family owned, and is now in its fourth generation.
Interestingly, this bottling has been double distilled, which is highly usual in the Armagnac industry, with most spirits distilled only once. Janneau claim to have reintroduced double distillation back into the industry in 1972 – as they hoped to combine the best aspects of Cognac and Scotch production in their Armagnac. The spirit has been aged for 12 years in French Limousin oak casks, and is made with Ugni Blanc grapes.
The result is a sophisticated, mellow Armagnac that serves up notes of vanilla, stem ginger, caramelised orange, rancio, sultanas, dried apricot, toffee, flowers, a little spicy French oak and some gentle red fruits.
A meeting of styles between whisky and Armagnac, this bottling would be a great gateway for any Scotch drinker looking to get into the spirit.
