A mature offering from esteemed Armagnac producer, Janneau.
Janneau was established in 1851 by Pierre Etienne Janneau, and is now one of the oldest Armagnac houses still in operation. The distillery is family owned, and now in its fourth generation.
Janneau 18 Year Old forms part of Janneau’s Single Distillery range. Like other bottlings in series, the 18 Year Old has been double distilled. Janneau claims to have reintroduced double distillation into the Armagnac industry in 1972, with this style of production rather unusual: Armagnac is usually produced in a “one-shot” style of distillation. Double distillation ensures that a purer, softer spirit is produced.
This bottling has been aged for 18 years in French Limousin oak casks, and is made with Ugni Blanc grapes.
The final result is a rich and sophisticated Armagnac, which serves up notes of soft flowers, supple citrus rind, ginger bread, vanilla, dried fruits, white grapes, orange rind, tobacco smoke, dense leather and intense, spicy French oak.
An older take on Janneau’s double distiller Armagnac, this is a fragrant, sumptuous and well balanced dram.
