A wonderful high strength expression from Hayman’s, this gin was supplied to the Royal and Merchant Navies from 1863! Named after the dock in Deptford, South London where the gin was first loaded on to military vessels. Gin was an essential part of the cargo that would prove to be a key export. This period in imperial British history gave the world several classic gin cocktails, including the Pink Gin, the Pegu Club and, of course, the Gin and Tonic! Navy strength, also known as “gunpowder strength” is 57%, the level at which gunpowder would still ignite when the gin had been added to it! The gin itself is a feisty and intense offering, with wonderful botanic and citrus notes. The high strength makes this ideal for gin cocktails, ensuring none of the flavour gets lost in even the most complex drink. Somewhat difficult to get hold of outside of the UK, gin fans from around the world should try this while they can!
