A staggeringly old port from famous producer, W & J Graham’s. Graham’s are located in the Port heartlands of the Douro Valley, Portugal.
A testament to the carefully honed skills of the blenders at Graham’s who have passed down their experience and craftmanship from generation to generation. This bottling has been created by master blender and wine maker Charles Symington, using wines laid down by the three generations of wine makers that went before him, up to his great-grandfather.
The wine has been extremely long aged in oak barrels, developing an extraordinary complexity.
Graham's Tawny 40 Year Old offers warm, full flavours of ginger, stewed dates and prunes, figs, caramel, polished oak, raisins, leather, tobacco smoke, bitter orange, dark chocolate, malty bread, red grapes, and treacle. Remarkably, this wine has kept a fresh fruity note, despite its great age.
The Port is bottled at 20% ABV, and has an acidity of 5.0 grams of tartaric acid per litre, alongside a Baumé level of 4.3.
Magnificent when paired with dark chocolate or treacle tart, this Port is perhaps best enjoyed by itself, however, as it is rich enough to serve as a dessert alone.
