The entry level expression in Speyside distillery Glenrothes range.
This range has recently received something of a revamp (keen-eyed drinkers will note that the vintages that previously adorned Glenrothes bottlings have been replaced by regular age statements), and now this bottling forms part of the Soleo Collection, taking its name from the process by which grapes are sun-dried to become sherry.
As expected then, this is a sherry cask matured whisky, which serves up flavours vanilla, bready cake, lemon, grapefruit, slight dried fruit, sherry sweetness and crisp malt, alongside some classic Glenrothes notes of flowers and wax.
Bottled without any artificial colouration, the natural amber hue of this spirit mirrors its boldly coloured packaging.
An interesting new direction from Glenrothes.
