A Cask Strength release, which forms part of the first standard range of whiskies to be released by Glenallachie since the takeover by Billy Walker (of Glendronach fame).
It is wonderful to see the revival of this distillery, which has largely been consigned to blends and indie bottlings until now.
This whisky has been matured in a mixture of American oak, Oloroso, Pedro Ximénez and virgin oak casks. The result is a powerful and deeply complex dram. Glenallachie Cask Strength serves up warming notes of citrus, dried fruit, ginger, heather honey, malt, sherried oak, intense toffee (a Glenallachie hallmark) and pressed flowers.
Bottled at a tremendous 57.1% ABV, and without chill filtration or artificial colouration, this is a tour-de-force.
A great start from Glenallachie.
