A wonderful selection set of miniatures from the Glenallachie distillery in Speyside.

This gift set contains three different whiskies produced at Glenallachie: the 12 year old, the 15 year old and the peated blended malt whisky Lum Reek.

The 12 year has been aged in a mixture of Pedro Ximénez, Oloroso and virgin oak casks. The result is a complex and deep dram, with notes of dried fruit, plums, heather honey, vanilla, oily nuts, toasted oak, dark chocolate, milky coffee, cornbread, and warm malt.

The 15 year old is a little more complex, enjoying a finishing period in former Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso sherry puncheons and hogsheads. The whisky delivers flavours of bright, sweet dried fruits, ginger, chocolate biscuits, malt, walnuts, toasted peanuts in caramel, fragrant pressed flowers, figs, vanilla and dark oak.

Lum Reek is a blended malt, made with a mixture of Speyside, Islay and GlenAllachie whiskies to produce a sumptuous, peaty dram. The whisky is matured in first-fill Bourbon, red wine, and Oloroso sherry casks, virgin oak, imparting plenty of maturity to the spirit.

The dram opens with a thick, pungent peat and slight ashiness, accompanied by some citrus rind, chocolate, dried fruit, sweet wine, honey, bright oak, charred wood, and bursting berries.

An excellent introduction to the wares of this distillery.
