Gin Lane 1751 London Dry Gin
70 cl, 40%

Taking its name from the famous Gin Act of 1751, which saw gin become the more genteel spirit we know today, this is a gin that bears the influence of history. “Gin Lane” was the title of an infamous painting by Hogarth, illustrating the worst excesses of London’s Gin Craze in the early 18th Century (it is less known that this was actually a piece of propaganda art designed to boost beer and ale sales). This gin was created through partnership between Charles Maxwell of Thames Distillers and the Bloomsbury Club, itself a bar based upon the exploits of the storied Bloomsbury set of the early 20th century. In a market full of multi-botanical, complex gins with dizzying arrays of ingredients, there is something refreshing about this gins simplicity. It is a classic, traditional juniper-forward style gin which uses 8 carefully chosen botanicals: orris, lemon, orange, angelica, coriander, juniper, star anise and cassia bark. These combine to produce a superb, citrusy, bittersweet and bright gin. Premium quality at a fantastic price point.
